Ways Of Giving
When you give to The Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation you are making an investment in the good health of your family, friends and neighbors. Large or small, your gift helps ensure that Hackensack University Medical Center can continue to provide outstanding health care as the frontiers of medicine expand and community needs evolve. There are many ways you can help, whether by providing immediate cash funds, a long-term planned gift or an in-kind auction donation.
Direct Cash Gifts & Pledges
You may contribute an immediate gift using a personal check, cash or your credit card, or pledge a gift over an extended period. You may also make an outright gift of stocks, bonds, and/or mutual fund shares that have appreciated. This is an especially attractive option, as you enjoy significant tax savings by donating securities that you have held for at least one year. Any gift may be directed to a particular program or we can apply it to our most immediate need.
For more information on making a gift to our Annual Appeal or any of our Capital Campaigns, please contact Elizabeth Donald via phone at 551-996-4161, or email at edonald@hackensackumc.org.
Matching Gifts
Many employers will match cash gifts their employees make to nonprofit organizations. Such programs can double or even triple the value of your gift. Check with your employer to see if a matching gift program exists. If it doesn’t, please let us know so we can visit your human resources department and explain the tax advantages and value of such programs to the community.

Planned Gifts
Since 1992, the Foundation’s Planned Giving Program has helped build an endowment with donor commitments which now exceeds $46 million, thus providing financial stability to Hackensack University Medical Center and ensuring that it continues to provide the very best health care to the people of our region and beyond. Our endowment is built through charitable bequests, gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts and other financial vehicles. In addition to cash gifts, real estate and personal property, such as a second home, undeveloped land, artwork and jewelry make desirable gifts.
Some donors choose to structure a tax-advantaged life-income gift. This allows you to make a gift of an asset that produces little or no income and receive payments back for the rest of your life. Best of all, you may be able to avoid some or all of the capital gains tax on appreciated assets. Life-income gift arrangements are managed professionally by outside investment experts at no cost to you. We provide you with all the information you need to report your charitable tax deductions and the income you receive from a life-income gift. We will be happy to meet with you and your financial advisors to discuss how best to structure a plan that meets your needs.
Donors who support the medical center with a planned gift automatically become members of the Medical Center’s Legacy Society and their names are inscribed in the Donor Recognition Gallery located in Main Lobby of the medical center. Those who give more than once to the Planned Giving Program join our Legacy Society Chairman’s Circle.

Naming Opportunities
Numerous naming opportunities are available to recognize gifts of $250,000 or more in support of the Beyond Extraordinary Campaign for the John Theurer Cancer Center, the Beat Beyond Campaign for the Heart & Vascular Hospital, as well as the entire Hackensack University Medical Center campus. Whether you are interested in supporting our oncology, cardiology, pediatric programs or some other area, an opportunity exists for you to make a significant impact on the medical care in our community and in the region. Additionally, our naming opportunities program allows you to place your name, the name of a loved one or the name of your caregiver in perpetuity on one of the Medical Center programs or facilities.
