Rowan Zubi - A Lifetime of Determination

Rowan Zubi Header

Rowan Zubi was six years old when she was diagnosed with leukemia. Her hospital became her home and her treatment became her reality: steady doses of physician consults and intravenous chemotherapy, along with more medication and constant injections. That lasted more than a year.

Rowan returned to family life and elementary school. With the exception of the seizures she still experienced, all was relatively well. Three years later, the cancer was back. This time, Rowan needed a bone marrow transplant. Her older brother served as her donor and Rowan spent 100 days in isolation.

Twelve years after her initial diagnosis, Rowan is an avid dancer and photographer. When the music starts, she finds it impossible to stop dancing and she is proud of what she describes as her breathtaking photographs. As a college freshman who is determined to make a difference, Rowan reflects on how her experience with leukemia has shaped her perspective on life and inspired her to help others.

Rowan Zubi Content

"Being in such a scary and dangerous situation made me realize how fortunate I am and how I need to live life to the fullest. I'm only 18 years old, but I have been through more things than most people experience in a lifetime. I want to touch the lives of people who are going through what I went through to help them stay positive and keep fighting. Helping people is what I want to do and what I will keep striving to do."
